Tina Hooker, LPC-S

Life can be such a struggle even when things appear to be going well. Often our relationships leave us feeling wounded and hurting. You have heard it said “hurting people hurt people”. The truth is that we do not heal in a vacuum, isolated from others. It takes healthy relationships to help heal the emotional wounds that we walk around with. Beginning with Person Centered Therapy, it is my goal to create a safe environment for individuals to begin the healing process; an environment that individuals feel safe to share their soul wounds, their experiences, and the issues that are going on within. Many individuals are functioning with past traumas and have adopted negative self talk and maladaptive behaviors to deal with their daily stressors. If you are seeking a safe environment to move toward healing, I will be glad to help guide you through the process.
I graduated from the University of Mississippi in December 2001 with a Master’s of Education in Community Counseling. I specialize in play therapy techniques, and have worked with children and youth in the school system and through the Oxford Play Therapy Therapy Training Institute, and continue to use this mode of therapy in my private practice. After receiving my license as a professional counselor in February 2004, I worked with individuals with developmental disabilities using Applied Behavior Analysis at the North MS Regional Center. I now provide individual therapy for adults, youth and children as early as 3 years of age. I have training and experience in Play Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
